Pizzas in Norway is just a whole 'nother thing than in the US... But you *can* get pizzas for like 99 kroner or whatever.

Anyway, nice post! We should go drink some aquavit some time. ;)

Sorry, but Americans simply think EVERY country is poor that doesn't waste tremendous amounts of water, electricity and food.

I mean there IS a reason why Norway is the happiest place on earth (according to this well known poll)...

Don't lump all Americans together, please, Hades32. ;) Some of us have chosen to live in Norway, have gotten used to its quirks, and prefer it to our country of origin. Yes, I sometimes grumble about the selection at the grocery store, but I have adapted for the most part. It's definitely worth the trade-off for a happy, safe and full life in this country. It is definitely a better place to raise a child.

The biggest difference I see between living here and living in the US (esp. as a parent) is that the pervasive "culture of fear" does not exist here. (And, honestly, given the difference in crime rate, no wonder!) There isn't the every-man-for-himself vibe here.

I notice the original article was written in 2005. I would be very curious to hear from this writer now--now that Norway has basically been able to watch the recession from a very comfortable seat on the sidelines while economies around the world have collapsed. Suddenly, the Norwegian trait of frugality doesn't seem so bad, does it, Brucie? Can you imagine how long the oil fund (even adjusted for population) would last in US hands?

What is that there was another portrait of Oslo in the same paper, about 2 years later, depicting Oslo as a place inhabited only by the wealthy, with heated sidewalks throughout. I didn't recognize that Oslo either--I doubt they ventured north of Karl Johan. ;)

There is no problem a big pizza, delivered to your home could cost you over 30 USD.

I mean, there's no problem with anything costing obscene amount of dollars in Norway, after all - the dollar is worth nothing ATM :)

Income vs cost of life won't make you too happy if you do your math though, but then again so is the case in almost any capital city.
